01 / 20 / 2012 Registered Nurse - Telemedicine

Position Summary

Addiction Services of Thames Valley is seeking four (4) highly motivated Registered Nurses for a new program providing consultation, assessment and support for people living with a mental illness and/or addiction via Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN). The position involves working collaboratively with Nurse Practitioners, addiction / mental health teams, primary care physicians, psychiatrists, emergency departments, family health teams and other community health service providers to support the health needs of individual patients living with mental illness and/or addiction. The telemedicine program will include Community Withdrawal Management supports for persons with addiction concerns.

Details of Position/Hours of Work

  • Full-time (35 hours/week)
  • Start date - immediate to April 1, 2012

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the delivery of high quality telemedicine services
  • Develops internal organizational telemedicine policies and procedures
  • Promotes telemedicine to healthcare professionals, patients and the community
  • Develops expertise in the use and care of the equipment
  • Participates in OTN training sessions as required
  • Assists with program development, implementation and evaluation of this new innovative
  • Participates in MH LHIN reporting requirements and OTN evaluation activities as required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (BScN Degree preferred) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Has purchased liability protection under RNAO or independently
  • 3 - 5 years experience working in the Mental Health/Addictions field
  • Experience with Mental Health/Addictions Crisis Assessment
  • Knowledgeable about primary health needs in persons living with a Mental Illness and Addictions
  • Excellent health assessment skills, sound clinical judgment and decision making skills
  • Ability to provide education to staff, clients and community members about health and wellness
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and develop new programs to meet identified gaps in service
  • Knowledge of Information Technology systems (OTN equipment knowledge is an asset)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with patients, families, health care providers/teams and other members of the community
  • Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skill
  • Fluent computer skills/knowledge of Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, electronic client records
  • Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector screening
  • Able to work rotating shifts including weekends
  • Have valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle

01 / 20 / 2012 Addiction/Mental Health Counselor - Problem Gambling Services Program

Position Summary

This front line, clinical position assists individuals concerned with their own or someone else's gambling. This position is based in the London office however service to the surrounding counties may be required (usually one day per week). Office hours are varied and flexible requiring some evening hours. This position reports to the Coordinator/Trainer - Core Programming.

  • Full-time (35 hours/week) permanent position
  • Immediate start
  • Includes evening & may include some weekends
  • Schedule may vary according to program needs

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Share in the provision of Entry / First Contact / Intake Services using virtual technology and clinical conferencing
  • Provide assessment, treatment planning, referral, advocacy, preliminary case management, community treatment and education as appropriate to persons who have concerns about their own gambling or someone else's
  • Provide counseling on an individual and/or group basis
  • Participate in the development and facilitation of treatment, support, or information groups as needed
  • Provide the above mentioned clinical services in satellite offices and other locations as designated and needed
  • Manage and meet targets for a clinical caseload and maintain direct service requirements
  • Manage indirect services and administrative duties
  • Be available for evening clinical work during regular office hours and on occasion outside of regular hours as needed and when appropriate

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Requirements

  • Post secondary education in the social services field
  • Preference will be given to applicants with clinical experience working in the field of problem gambling and to those who hold a CPCG, or CGC designation
  • Clinical work experience ideally in substance abuse assessment and treatment is preferred
  • Comfort and skill with public speaking is essential. The successful candidate will be expected to provide prevention awareness presentations to elementary and secondary school students as well as to community groups as part of a community awareness role.
  • Computer proficiency
  • Access to a reliable vehicle
  • Valid driver's license and proof of current automobile insurance
  • A current Police Records Check and Vulnerable Position Screening is a condition of employment
  • A second language is an asset
  • An RSW or RSSW designation is an asset
